Q: IF A TOILET IS SUCH THAT IF ONE SITS STRAIGHT ON THE TOILET THEN EITHER ONE WILL BE FACING THE QIBLAH OR ONE WOULD BE FACING ONE’S BACK TOWARDS THE QIBLAH, THEN WHAT SHOULD ONE DO IN SUCH A SITUATION? SHOULD ONE FACE THE QIBLAH AND SIMPLY MAKE TAUBAH AFTERWARDS?

A: A person should turn towards the right or the left in such a situation in order to avoid facing towards the Qiblah or facing one’s back to the Qiblah. According to the Hadeeth, it is prohibited to face the Qiblah whilst relieving one’s self. Taubah is not a licence for sin.
